This is a long postponed post, and my sincere apologies to my new friend Michael Matthews.
Michael first contacted me in April about fact checking his new book, “Finding Annie” for its factual authenticity in its sections taking place in Fiji and more specifically, in Levuka town. He found me through my blog, and sent me a file of his then unpublished book. I jumped at the chance to share some local knowledge and flavor from the Fiji Islands. It was the perfect opportunity to share some of the reality of this place in a permanent way through Mr. Matthews incredible story telling skills.
Finding Annie is a starts off as a sailing journey of a man trying to figure out his life after a deep personal loss of a loved one and the story kicks up from there. You follow Victors journey across the Pacific Ocean from the States, to Hawaii, and ultimately to Fiji to follow his unique and personable story.
This story pulls you in and is so lovely to read! It is a unique story that combines many motifs and themes into an intricate yet easily followed and enjoyable read about life, love, loss, hope and new beginnings.
I can personally vouch for Michaels attention to detail, personal investment in characters, and creating a relatable yet thought provoking book. It will keep you interested and page-flipping until the very end!
The story ends wonderfully and your personal investment in the characters is rewarded. A seriously good read that you won’t regret purchasing!
Michael published the book in June 2013 and sent me a few copies to put in our village library which have been highly checked out! All the adults here who have read the books love the story, the characters, and naturally the fact that the last 1/3 of the book takes place mostly in Levuka, our proud little town on Ovalau.
So please, if you are looking for Christmas gifts for friends and family this year, give the gift of a good book and support a friend of mine! I promise you will not regret it!
